Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool desperately needed to win today, and here are three things we spotted from the match.
A first game back after the international game is never easy on the eye. Especially when Liverpool had 20 players away in total.
It’s even more difficult when you are facing a side who you haven’t beaten at home in over four years – dating all the way back to 2019.
Brighton have been a bit of a bogey team for Jurgen Klopp’s side over the last few years. Up until today, Klopp hadn’t even gotten the better of Roberto De Zerbi in his previous four attempts.
However, this time around the Liverpool boss finally got what he wanted, and recorded another important three points in the title race. Here are three things we spotted during the match.

Brighton targeting one side
During the first-half it’s fair to say Brighton very much attacked down Liverpool’s right flank. Roberto De Zerbi’s side tried to utilise the speed of Simon Adingra and Danny Welbeck and it worked to great effect.
Overall, as per the BBC, 66.1% of Brighton’s attacks were down Liverpool’s right side. Meanwhile, just over 10% were down Liverpool’s left side in the first half.
That really tested Liverpool’s young duo at the back in Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley. But they stood up to the task.
According to Fotmob, Quansah completed the most passes in the first half (66) and made the most interceptions (4).
Meanwhile, Bradley won the most duels (5) and the most tackles (2).
Alexis Mac Allister contribution vs Brighton
This was a special game for Alexis Mac Allister. It was the first time he played against his former employers in his new home.
Brighton didn’t make it easy for the Argentine. De Zerbi’s side deliberately tried to minimise his impact, and Jakub Moder and Pascal Gross both man marked him very tightly during the game.
However, Mac Allister still managed to standout, creating the most chances on the pitch, and providing a sumptuous assist for Mohamed Salah’s goal.
These were his key stats as per Fotmob:
- Most chances created (5)
- 92% pass accuracy
- 4 key passes
- 5 recoveries
Jarell Quansah going under the radar
As mentioned above, Quansah was really tested for Liverpool today with the way Brighton set-up. However, this was another match where he proved he could be relied upon.
The young Liverpool centre-back overall dealt really well with everything that was thrown at him. Quansah dominated the ball in possession, completing the most passes on the pitch.
He was also solid defensively, and didn’t lose a lot of duels, while also making key interceptions that kept Brighton from threatening the Liverpool goal.
He isn’t the finished article yet. But it was another impressive performance by the youngster. These were his key stats in the game as per Fotmob:
- Most passes completed on the pitch (98)
- Most interceptions made for Liverpool (4)
- 4/6 duels won
- 2/2 aerial duels won
- 1 chance created
