Liverpool vs Manchester United for years was the highlight of the football calendar. In recent years, Liverpool have made a mockery of the rivalry and have dominated United time and time again.
Today’s game was a lot more balanced between the two sides. United took the lead, but then Liverpool overturned that lead within the matter of minutes just before the end of the first half.
For much of the game, it was end to end stuff. Both sides having opportunities to score more goals and causing each other plenty of problems. But while what happened on the pitch was enthralling, it was equally intriguing to see who was in attendance among the crowd observing the game from the stands.

Michael Edwards spotted at Old Trafford
Among the people in the crowd, former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards was spotted watching the game by several journalists, including Theo Squires from the Liverpool ECHO.
Edwards has of course accepted a return to FSG this week after leaving the club back in 2022. He will become the club’s head of football operations in an exciting new role which will see the club’s owners move towards a multi-club model.
He will not assume that position until June. But it’s great to see Edwards already back involved and watching Liverpool in action. He’s always been a Liverpool supporter and the club is very clearly close to his heart.
He is also the perfect man to oversee what is going to be a pivotal moment in Liverpool’s recent history. With the departure of Jurgen Klopp, the Reds will have some important decisions to make ahead of the summer transfer window – which again promises to be a busy one for Liverpool.
It’s clear Edwards is looking to get back into business. His appearance at Old Trafford today is yet more proof of that.
