‘Brilliant’… Stephen Warnock says Liverpool are about to get a ‘different dimension’ added to their team

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s team can still go up a level in the last months of the season.

The Reds find themselves still in the running to scoop all four trophies they’ve entered into in 2023/24. Having successfully navigated a torrid time with injuries, players are now starting to come back, too.

One of the players to already have returned is Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian has been good since coming back from a hamstring injury, scoring twice in four games. And according to former Liverpool players Stephen Warnock, Szoboszlai staying fit and reigniting his partnership with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold will add a ‘different dimension’ to the Reds.

“You talk about a player being durable, that’s the challenge for him now,” Warnock told The Official Liverpool FC Podcast of Szoboszlai. “I think he’s capable, I absolutely love him, I think he’s brilliant. I think he’s the type of player we needed, I think he’ll add a different dimension.

“That triangle at the beginning of the season between Trent, Salah and Szoboszlai was unbelievable, no one could mark it because they were thinking, ‘Szoboszlai’s comfortable playing as right-winger, Salah moves as a centre-forward’. That rotation was incredible and the great thing is that’s still got to come back.

“Adding that quality in where you’ve got Trent and Szoboszlai into that midfield area, you’re going to want those players on the pitch. They can change the dynamic of a game. They’re the kind of players you want. I think he’s brilliant.”

Liverpool waiting for terrific trio

When talking about a terrific trio in recent Liverpool past, there’s no questioning who that would be.

But although the threesome of Salah, Mane and Firmino is very different to Salah, Szoboszlai and Alexander-Arnold, both can be equally effective.

With all three players injured recently, Liverpool’s right-hand side has been robbed of that quality.

Of course, Conor Bradley has done terrifically in Alexander-Arnold’s absence. The other two positions have been filled by different players, with a special mention to Harvey Elliott who has filled in in midfield and attack brilliantly.

But despite all that the likes of Bradley and Elliott offer, having the same three players in there game after game will really help Liverpool.

That Salah, Szoboszlai and Trent are three of the Reds most talented and creative players should, too.

As things stand, the only one now missing from the three is Alexander-Arnold. However, there appears to be some confidence that the 25-year-old could be back for Liverpool’s next game, against Brighton on March 31st.

If not, then it won’t be too much longer beyond that before Trent returns. As a result, we’ll soon see these ‘incredible’ three players back in tandem together. How we’ve missed it. Hopefully it can be the shot in the arm to drive Liverpool on to major honours in May
