What Ryan Gravenberch was like in Liverpool training yesterday after injury

Liverpool are slowly starting to get the cavalry back after a torrid few months with injuries.

The Reds have done remarkably well amid a growing injury list since the turn of the year. After collecting one trophy, they’re still in contention for another three.

Now, with the season entering its final two months, Liverpool look set to be boosted by the return of a clutch of key players. Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai are already back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly not far away, too.

Another to have made his comeback is Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch midfielder was stretchered off during the Carabao Cup final last month. However, less than three weeks on from that nasty looking injury, Gravenberch is back. The 21-year-old looks to have taken part in full training yesterday.

With a Europa League game against Sparta Prague to come tonight, Liverpool’s session at the AXA was open to journalists yesterday. And taking advantage of that, journalist Ian Doyle took to X shared his assessment of Gravenberch’s time on the pitches.

“Doesn’t seem to be too many issues with Ryan Gravenberch here,” Doyle reports. “Good to see Salah, Elliott and Tsimikas blasting it at each other too.”

Gravenberch back in training

It was a little bit of a surprise to hear that Gravenberch had returned to training quite so quickly.

It’s true that he had been reported to have a chance of featuring in Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Manchester United. But it had seemed like an outside shot.

Obviously, Liverpool have a game to play before that trip to Old Trafford, but it seems very unlikely that Gravenberch will be involved against Sparta this evening.

With the Reds virtually through already, there’s no need to risk anyone who doesn’t need risking.

If Gravenberch continues to look good and injury free in training, then it would make sense to take him to United. But not tonight.

The Netherlands international has had a little bit of a stop-start season for Liverpool. Inconsistent performances have led to him being in and out of the team.

As the run-in looms into sight, Gravenberch is yet to fully convince too many that he should be a regular starter for the Reds. However, he’s been far more good than bad and can help ease the workload on his fellow midfielders.

Liverpool do still have issues. As well as Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones remain injured, amongst others. But slowly, things are starting to look up. Welcome back Ryan!
