‘Found it tough’… Jamie Carragher names two Liverpool players who really struggled vs Arsenal

It was an evening and a round to forget for Liverpool supporters. Nothing went the Reds’ way this weekend. From losing to Arsenal, to Manchester City coming back from a goal down to beat Manchester City.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. The Premier League title is still very much in Liverpool’s hands. And the Reds have plenty of time to improve and get back into the groove of things. They will also need to learn from what went wrong against Arsenal.

Especially two players who really didn’t have the best of times on the pitch. Both Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch came into the starting XI for this game. But neither did enough to warrant Jurgen Klopp keeping them on the pitch. Now Jamie Carragher believes they struggled against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Jamie Carragher on Gravenberch and Gakpo

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher revealed he was less than impressed by both Gravenberch’s and Gakpo’s performance.

“There is no doubt, Jurgen Klopp mentioned it at the end of the game, he spoke about a triangle on this side [the right]. The two players who came in, Gakpo and Gravenberch, they found it tough, and their pressing just wasn’t at the right time, they were just getting cut open. Getting played around them, little touches and then they were out,” Carragher said.

The former Liverpool defender is right. Gakpo and Gravenberch struggled in this game. But in all fairness so did everyone in a Liverpool shirt. Perhaps with the only exception being Alexis Mac Allister.

We are confident both Gakpo and Gravenberch, who have shown what they are capable of, will bounce back from this. They’ve both got an abundance of potential and very bright futures ahead.
