Liverpool facing ‘real’ prospect of 27-year-old leaving them for PSG this summer

Liverpool are set to undergo a number of changes during the summer transfer window.

With Jurgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the season, the Reds are about to embark upon the great unknown. There’s no question that the upcoming window will be their biggest for years.

There have already been suggestions that a number of key players could look to follow Klopp out of the door. Although those rumours have centred around Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah so far, there are now concerns that Luis Diaz could leave, too.

Diaz has been subject to interest from Barcelona in the past and Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra took to X last night to report that PSG are now showing a ‘real’ desire to recruit him.

“PSG’s interest in Luis Diaz is real,” Sierra writes. “They have it on their list of options for the summer market. However, today there is no progress and they have not contacted him.

“The Colombian winger has more than 3 years of contract with the Reds.”

PSG looking to land Diaz

If the price were right, then it doesn’t feel as though Liverpool would be too upset about losing Diaz.

Yes, having featured in all but one Premier League game he has been a key player for the Reds this season. But his output has been patchy.

Although he’s improved of late – and was brilliant on Sunday against Manchester City – you always still want to see a little more from Diaz.

Given that he isn’t getting anywhere close to the amount of goals Sadio Mane used to from the same position, you get the feeling that he could be improved upon.

As a result, if PSG or Barcelona were to come in with a good offer, maybe Liverpool would consider it.

Last summer there were rumours that Saudi Arabian clubs were sniffing around Lucho. However, a sale then wouldn’t have made a great deal of sense.

Some would argue that it still doesn’t. At 27 Diaz is just hitting his peak and looks to have finally shaken off the effects of last year’s knee injury. The best could certainly be yet to come.

With doubts over Salah’s future beyond this season, Liverpool shouldn’t leave themselves short. To need to replace Diaz and Salah in one window may be a little too much.

PSG don’t often back down in the window, though. Set to lose Kylian Mbappe, they’ll want to make a statement arrival. Let’s see if anything develops.
