Liverpool came out of the blocks absolutely flying against Sparta Prague this evening.

1-0 up after seven minutes, it took the Reds just six minutes more to add another two to the scoreline at Anfield. Rampant doesn’t even cover it.

The second of those goals was a first ever strike in Liverpool red for Bobby Clark. Making his 11th appearance for the club, Clark capitalised on some sloppy play from Sparta to poke home Mohamed Salah’s ball across the box.

A first senior goal for the 19-year-old and a moment to remember forever. And speaking at half-time for TNT Sports, former Liverpool forward Joe Cole praised what he’d seen from Clark.

“Fantastic moment for that young lad to score his first goal. It’s a dream,” Cole gushed. “His eyes must have lit up, you can’t miss. The goalie’s come out, even the goalie’s made a mistake.”

Clark scores first Liverpool goal

Clark has been steadily growing in stature at Liverpool ever since the turn of the year. So much so that he now feels like a genuine option for Jurgen Klopp.

Over the past few months the teenager has been slowly hitting milestones in his professional career.

Having slotted into the first-team setup so smoothly, it was only a matter of time before Clark found the net. As Cole says, tonight was a golden opportunity.

Of course, the opposition won’t matter to Bobby, nor should it. But Sparta really were abysmal at Anfield this evening.

In fact, had Clark not found the net against the Czech side, then he would have perhaps been disappointed in himself. If not now, then when.

As it happened, there was no need for personal recriminations. Bobby is up and running.

The next challenge for the former Newcastle academy youngster is to get even more minutes under his belt. He certainly has the talent to do so.

With the likes of Ryan Gravenberch now coming back to fitness though, that’s going to become more difficult.

But Clark has hurdled every obstacle put in his way so far. A first goal is another reminder that he’s here and he’s here to stay. Congrats, Bobby!
