When Jarell Quansah arrived at Liverpool’s pre-season camp last year, few would have envisaged the journey he would go onto have. One the back of an impressive League One loan at Bristol Rovers, there was definitely promise shown by the 20-year-old.
However, the way he has carried that promise has been unprecedented. Quansah has since become the revelation of the season for Liverpool. He’s up there as one of the revelations of the season in the Premier League as well.
Through every challenge thrown at him by Jurgen Klopp, the young centre-back has never wavered. He’s risen to the task time and time again. Even coming up against Manchester City and one of the best forwards in Erling Haaland didn’t faze him last weekend.
If anything, Quansah proved himself once again putting in a fantastic performance against the champions.

Jarell Quansah on Ibrahima Konate
Now Quansah has been speaking about his unprecedented rise in an interview with The Athletic. In that interview, he also revealed one player who has really stunned him with his one vs one ability when defending.
That player is Ibrahima Konate, who Quansah described as ‘special.’ And said his one vs one ability is something that he has never quite seen.
“All of the other centre-backs have helped me in different ways. Ibou’s (Konate) one-v-one defending is so special. I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” Quansah said. “The same with Joel (Matip], with the way he steps in and drives forward with the ball, how he breaks lines and picks the right pass. It’s just a great learning experience for me.”
It’s great to see Quansah speak so highly of Konate. He is right. Konate is a brilliant defender. Someone who Quansah has definitely been learning from as well. Given Konate himself is only 24-years-old, the future of Liverpool’s centre-back department is definitely in safe hands. Both Quansah and Konate have the potential to play for Liverpool for many, many more years to come.
