‘Oh my God’… Jurgen Klopp says ‘exceptional’ Liverpool player proved everyone wrong vs Man City

Given the amount of injuries Liverpool had yesterday, the Reds had absolutely no right to dominate the game against Manchester City. This is after all, Pep Guardiola’s super team – virtually full strength. A team that had won the treble last season.

Yet, in the second-half in particular, Guardiola’s team never looked like they were worthy of that title. Manchester City failed to create chances from open play all game. And then in the second-half they were forced to face an attacking onslaught by Liverpool. An onslaught which should have brought the Reds more rewards than just the mere one penalty goal scored by Alexis Mac Allister.

But while Liverpool will rue their missed chances, they can also hold their heads up high. This was a brilliant performance. The kind of performance which is a proof that the Reds have a bright future ahead of them.

Jurgen Klopp on Jarell Quansah

One of Liverpool’s young talents who has been delivering all season and stepping up week in week out is Jarell Quansah. He has come out nowhere at the beginning of pre-season and has since become a core part of Liverpool’s first team squad.

Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp suggested to Liverpool’s official podcast that some people may have looked at Quansah’s name on the team sheet and thought he may struggle before the game. But the 20-year-old completely proved them wrong.

“Jarell Quansah. Oh my god,” Klopp said. “I am 100% sure I would like to see [the comments] before the game. We saw the line-up, Ibou [Konate] cannot play. Jarell Quansah against Haaland? How people see it? [He was] exceptional.”

Klopp is absolutely right. Quansah was phenomenal for Liverpool in this game. He really stood-up to the challenge of facing some of the best attackers in world football. The way he handled the occasion is a testament to his character. The future is extremely bright for the Liverpool centre-back.
