Michael Edwards is back at Liverpool. It feels even a little surreal to type this. But it’s true. After leaving Anfield for pastures new two years ago, in a circuitous way the club’s former sporting director has returned.
Edwards previously spent a decade at Liverpool. He is a self-confessed boyhood Liverpool supporter. During his first spell at Liverpool he played a key role in helping the Reds achieve the tremendous success that they did.
Edwards’ analytical eye saw Liverpool recruit shrewdly during the ten-year period and helped Jurgen Klopp build a super team at Anfield. Now, as Klopp departs from the club, Edwards will be tasked with taking charge of finding his replacement and football operations at FSG.
It promises to be an exciting new era with Edwards having confirmed that FSG will also look to invest in another football club.

What Michael Edwards told Chelsea and Manchester United
Before returning to Liverpool in the two year period, Michael Edwards was offered the opportunity to join several Premier League clubs. That is according to a report by The Times. According to the report, Manchester United asked him to run the football side of the club entirely. Meanwhile, Chelsea offered him the chance to be chief football executive.
Edwards politely declined both offers. The former Liverpool man was never interested in joining another club. He instead joined his former colleague, Ian Graham’s venture at a Ludonautics.
But this new FSG proposal was too good to turn down. The club’s owners have landed a huge coup in the process with Edwards one of the best in the business. That is demonstrated by the size of the clubs who wanted to bring him while he has been away.
