Liverpool travel to Sparta Prague tomorrow still juggling a number of fitness issues.
Having been stripped down to the bare bones of the squad over the past few months, Liverpool have been digging deep and using whomever is at their disposal.
And with Manchester City coming to Anfield on Sunday, Thursday’s match in Prague is sure to see plenty more rotation.
The good news is that after today’s open training session at Kirkby, Jurgen Klopp does have at least one more option available. Mo Salah was spotted involved in what is a huge boost to Liverpool.
But with the City game in mind, it feels unlikely that Salah will play any part tomorrow. As a result of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott being overplayed recently and Darwin Nunez needing protection from his own injury, Klopp has a dilemma upfront.
Consequently, it could be that we some young guns given a go out in Prague. Diaz would feel likely to be rested given his workload of late and with that in mind, it feels like the right time for Mateusz Musialowski to come in on the Reds left side.
Musialowksi primed for Liverpool debut
Remarkably given the hype surrounding him at one stage, Musialowski is yet to make any kind of appearance for the Liverpool first-team.
Back in 2021/22, it had looked somewhat inevitable that the Polish youngster would be promoted to the senior team. Supporters who watched him in the academy deemed him to be ‘special’ and he looked to be on a fast-track to the squad.
However, two years on and Musialowksi has fallen by the wayside. Despite some good displays this season, his contract due to end in a couple of months. He looks all set to leave over the summer.
Nevertheless, we still think the 20-year-old should do so having featured for Liverpool. As per journalist Ian Doyle on X, Musialowski did indeed feature in today’s training session. He’s in the picture.
With problems and question marks over other options, there is no downside of playing Musialowski on Thursday.

The Poland U21 international will surely be hungry and desperate to finally prove himself with the big boys. If he shows up well enough, perhaps there’s still a chance he can earn a new contract at Anfield.
If he fails to spark, then no harm done. Liverpool will hopefully have enough to get them through the game regardless and can still correct things back at Anfield if not next week.
In that scenario, with no more chances to take, Musialowski will already be certain to be on his way in the summer.
But having shown so much promise since his arrival in 2020, Mateusz deserves his opportunity. This is the perfect time for it. Send him out there, Jurgen!
