Just because there is no sporting director at Liverpool doesn’t mean that the club isn’t active in the transfer market. Liverpool’s recruitment team will already be planning for the summer ahead.

As reported recently, there are two key personnel in charge of the recruitment process right now. And those two are already finalising summer plans.

One of the two major areas that Liverpool have to target is probably another winger and a centre-back. Both positions are currently weak spots in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Especially, the centre-back role. With Joel Matip’s contract expiring at the end of the season, there is definitely a spot for another centre-back, even with the brilliant emergence of Jarell Quansah.

It seems like the club’s recruitment team is of the same opinion. If the recent reports are to be believed.

Marc Guehi is on Liverpool’s transfer radar

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are interested in Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender has been on the club’s radar for a while now. And the report claims that he would cost Liverpool around £50m. It also cites that Palace are already exploring possible replacements for Guehi.

So based on that it seems like Palace are quite open to allowing their current captain to depart at the end of the season. For £50m Guehi would definitely come at a premium price for a centre-back.

However, he is a proven England international, and has done very well in the Premier League over the last few seasons now. So one can understand why his fee would be so high. That kind of proven quality is rare to find in the market these days. Not to mention he is only 23-years-old, which is still very young for a centre-back.

This is definitely one to watch. Guehi’s style of play and profile would suggest he is someone Liverpool would absolutely consider. The fact that he is available and on the market also makes this deal a sensible one for the Reds.
