Jordan Henderson has sent a message to Virgil van Dijk after Liverpool’s win in the League Cup final yesterday against Chelsea.

The Reds left it until the final moments of extra-time to secure their first piece of silverware of the season as a late Van Dijk header claimed a dramatic 1-0 win for Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

With Liverpool winning the match with a side that wouldn’t look out of place in an U-23s match, it was quite the accomplishment from Jurgen Klopp’s squad to beat Chelsea’s £1bn squad.

And taking to Instagram, Henderson praised Van Dijk and Liverpool, with the former Anfield captain sending a wordless message to the Dutch international after yesterday’s win in London.

With the likes of Xavi Simons and Calvin Harris also lauding Van Dijk and the Reds after their triumph in the League Cup, the defender’s reputation on Merseyside has only increased after yesterday.

And praise from Henderson is a strong sign that Van Dijk is taking his duties as captain of Liverpool well, with the centre-back leading the Reds expertly on Sunday despite going in as underdogs.

One trophy down, three more to go, is the motto most Liverpool fans and officials should now be thinking heading into the final three months of the season.

The Reds have a chance to make history with Klopp’s side still leading the Premier League and also being everyone’s favourite for the UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup.

Having fallen short of the quadruple before, Liverpool will not want to slip up again in what will be Klopp’s final season as a Premier League manager with the Reds.

And winning on Sunday and lifting their first piece of silverware of the season could give Liverpool the extra push they need to move forward and to create history.
