Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s best players over the past couple of months.

Having already slotted into the side seamlessly since arriving last summer, Mac Allister has kicked things up a notch recently. Now playing further up the pitch, the Argentine is adding goal contributions to his game for fun.

Few will have been surprised by the success of Mac Allister, who is a World Cup winner after all. But according to The Times, the speed at which he’s adapted to Liverpool has been impressing staff at the club.

They claim that those who work around the Reds AXA Training Centre have been raving about the standards Mac Allister sets on and off the pitch.

The 25-year-old is said to be a constantly smiling presence around the place and has reportedly ‘quickly bought into what it means to be a Liverpool player’.

Mac Allister settling in nicely

As the weeks go by, Mac Allister is just getting better and better for Liverpool. Initially, the former Brighton player perhaps had to just feel his way into where he fit in this Reds team.

Having been signed as a more attacking midfielder, Mac Allister found himself deployed in a deeper-lying role. That will have taken some adjusting to.

But despite the change of position, Macca never complained. He threw himself into learning how to play as a defensive midfielder for Liverpool and now looks a natural at it.

Jurgen Klopp suggested last week that Mac Allister’s long-term future may even lie as a deep-lying playmaker.

That whole scenario speaks of a player who is dedicated, professional and incredibly smart. Klopp has also previously called his No.10 a ‘footballing doctor’ and you can understand why.

Another word used to describe Mac Allister has been ‘unbelievable.’ Harvey Elliott chose that adjective to fit his teammate and it fits.

For some players, the jump from a smaller club to Liverpool can swallow them up. It takes a special kind of personality to ride that wave and surf it out. Mac Allister has done that and then some.

As Sunday’s Carabao Cup final looms into view, the Argentina international looks set to be one of the Reds’ most important players at Wembley.

With other big stars missing from the game, Mac Allister has suddenly taken on a much greater importance to Liverpool. Given the attitude and quality he’s shown so far, don’t expect that to be a problem for him.
