Liverpool had a number of heroes as they swept Luton Town away last night.
After Chiedozie Ogbene had put Luton into an early lead, it had the makings of a difficult evening at Anfield for the Reds. But the second-half saw the atmosphere ramp up and Liverpool stick four unanswered goals past the Hatters.
One of the heroes was Harvey Elliott, who was always involved and bagged the Reds’ fourth and final one of the evening. But facing up to the LFCTV cameras after the match, Elliott suggested that there was another player worth of evening greater applause: Alexis Mac Allister.
“Alexis can play anywhere,” raved the 20-year-old. “We’ve seen his qualities as a DM. He has the skill, the composure and the technique and he has that attacking side as well. He’s an unbelievable player.
“To play alongside him is amazing and I’ve learnt so much off him this season. He’s always going to try and find you and have that quality to pick you out.”
Elliott praises Mac Allister quality
You really can’t speak highly enough of just how quickly Mac Allister has settled in at Liverpool.
The Argentina international has been one of the first names on the teamsheet all season long. It’s fair to say that the Reds would not be top of the Premier League without him.
Yesterday, he was one of the real drivers behind Liverpool turning things around. Indeed, Mac Allister set up both of the Reds’ first two goals.
Having become used to seeing him operate in a slightly deeper role this season, the former Brighton man hasn’t been contributing all that much in the final third.
But that has changed over the past couple of games. With Wataru Endo playing behind him, Mac Allister has a goal and two assists in his last two games.

Even without those goal contributions though, Macca’s quality has been there for all to see.
Jurgen Klopp recently called the World Cup winner a ‘football doctor,’ such is his ability to see the game from a higher level.
He’s already shown an ability to play in different positions ably for Liverpool. Although he wasn’t signed as a defensive midfielder Mac Allister has done especially well in there so far.
Last night was the latest little show of evolution for a player who seems to be improving game on game right now. We can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
