‘Exceptional’ Liverpool player did two things more than any other player on the pitch vs Arsenal

Tonight was not Liverpool’s night. Arsenal were simply the better team. The Gunners dominated Jurgen Klopp’s team for much of the night. But in the end, Liverpool caused their own doom.

Two costly errors. First by Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, and then the other was Ibrahima Konate’s mistake to pick-up a second yellow card against Kai Havertz. After that, the game was virtually over for Liverpool. The Reds were never going to get back to the game with ten men, even if they only trailed by one goal.

On the whole, there can be a lot of criticism for all of Liverpool’s players. The only one who probably deserves praise is someone who has been described as ‘exceptional’ recently. And showed that once again tonight.

Alexis Mac Allister’s performance vs Arsenal

Alexis Mac Allister was Liverpool’s only bright spot. He was a constant presence in midfield, and helped to create control in an otherwise below par performance.

He also did two things more than anyone else on the pitch. Winning the most duels (11) and drawing the most fouls (4).

But on top of that Mac Allister also created the joint most chances (2) for Liverpool, completed the second most dribbles (2) and took on the most shots (3) as per Fotmob. He also made eight passes into the final third.

Mac Allister’s performance is definitely a silver lining amidst the gloom and doom. The Argentine has been in sensational form recently for Liverpool. And it’s good to see that for him at least that form did not end against Arsenal. It’s just a shame the rest of the Liverpool players didn’t play as well as he did.
