Things are a bit chaotic at Liverpool at the moment. There are so many injuries to contend with, it’s hard to keep up. However, on the pitch things are going just fine. If anything they’re going more than just fine. And it’s not just Liverpool’s first team players catching the eye, there’s plenty of loan stars making big statements as well.

In the January window, Liverpool were once again aggressive in their loan strategy. Several key players were recalled from loan spells but many more were also sent out on loan spells again. We’ve already written about Luke Chambers, who has done spectacularly since joining Wigan Athletic. But he wasn’t the only major Liverpool youngster sent out on loan to the Football League.

Probably the most significant piece of business Liverpool did in the January transfer window was recalling Fabio Carvalho from RB Leipzig, and then sending him out on loan again to Hull City. Already Carvalho is settling in really well at Hull City. And last night he did something other than his goal that Jurgen Klopp will really love as well.

What Fabio Carvalho did last night for Hull City

Last night, Hull City faced Southampton in a crucial match in their promotion bid to the Premier League. The game was a tough away fixture for Fabio Carvalho’s side. But the Liverpool loanee played a key role to make sure Hull took all three points from the St Mary’s Stadium.

Carvalho’s most memorable moment from the game was his goal. A well taken finish smashed into the back of the net. But while the finish will grab most peoples’ attentions, what Klopp will have been pleased by watching the game is what happened exactly before the goal.

Carvalho pushed high up the pitch and pressed his opponents alongside Jaden Philogene. The two of them pressured the Southampton defender enough to reprise possession.

It was exactly the type of pressing move that Klopp is renowned for at Liverpool. And he will have enjoyed Carvalho doing that kind of press at Hull City now. Sure, Klopp will not be the manager at Liverpool next season, but whoever comes in is expected to place a strong emphasis on pressing as well. Pressing is now a key trait in modern football, and it’s great to see Carvalho being able to pull it off.

In the past, Klopp has called him an ‘outstanding’ prospect. He is still clearly highly rated at the club and has a bright future ahead of him.
