On paper, Liverpool against Brentford seemed like a potential banana skin heading into this weekend. Thomas Frank has made Brentford a team who are hard to beat. And over the last few years, Liverpool have struggled at Brentford’s new stadium.
But this weekend, all of that changed. Liverpool got their first victory in the Premier League away from home against Brentford, and delivered a really strong performance. Brentford never looked like they were going to cause the Reds problem, even with injury troubles to contend with for Liverpool.
Much of that was thanks to the return of Mohamed Salah, who returned a little prematurely coming in to replace Diogo Jota at the end of the first half. And showed everyone what the Reds had been missing while he’s been away.

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker on Mohamed Salah
Speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast, both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer waxed lyrical about Liverpool’s Egyptian forward.
“He came back for Liverpool and came on as Diogo Jota got injured. He was immediately a threat,” Lineker said.
Meanwhile, Shearer was quick to add: “Terrific.”
That is probably the best way to describe Mohamed Salah. He is simply sensational. And his performance against Brentford was a reminder of that, just in case people had forgotten while he has been away.
If Liverpool are going to win the league, there is no doubt Salah will play a key role in that success. He is the type of player who wins league titles on his own. The type of player who can carry a team on his back, and decide games. Which is why the £34m Liverpool paid to sign him from AS Roma (Sky Sports) was an absolute bargain.
