Liverpool’s scouts don’t often get the credit they deserve. They put in so much work often following players for many years until they are finally signed. When the players they have followed do join the club it’s never the scout who gets the recognition either. It’s always the sporting director or the coach instead.
But the scout is always the one doing the most important job when it comes to recruitment. The reason Liverpool were certain about bringing in players like Dominik Szoboszlai or Darwin Nunez recently is because the club’s scouts had been tracking them for years prior. Szoboszlai was followed by Liverpool from his early teenage years. Nunez meanwhile was spotted while he was still playing in Uruguay.
There are other players who Liverpool have kept on their radar as well. Including one who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, and who the Reds could look to target in the summer having followed him for over four years now.

Jonathan David was on Liverpool’s transfer radar
Liverpool have been following Jonathan David since the 2019/20 season, so for over four years now. Back then it was Het Laatste Nieuws as per Tribal Football, who first reported on Liverpool scouts observing the Canadian international while he was still at Gent.
Later, in the summer of 2020, Liverpool came extremely close to signing David from the Belgian side. However, instead, the Reds opted to recruit Diogo Jota. That transfer has obviously paid dividends, too. But David has also progressed in strides over the last four years.
From Gent, he ended up moving to Lille, where he has made 89 goal contributions in the last four seasons so far. He also won the Ligue 1 title with Lille, and has played a key role in the club’s success. This season David has been excellent once again and already has 16 goals, and six assists as well in 31 games in all competitions.
He’s just turned 24-years-old, and with his contract expiring in 2025, this summer might be the perfect time for Liverpool to make a move for his services.
