Jurgen Klopp has spoken out on the injury to Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold has suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury that kept him side-lined for a few weeks back in January. As a result, the 25-year-old looks set to miss next weekend’s Carabao Cup final, with Conor Bradley ready to step in.

Seeing as Trent suffered the same problem twice in quick succession, some have suggested that the defender was brought back in a little too soon. But speaking during his pre-Brentford press conference this morning, the Liverpool manager sought to clarify this point.

“Ibou is not suspended anymore, Joey is fit again, Conor is back, Ali is back. So that’s all positive,” said Klopp when asked about availability for tomorrow’s game. “Thiago. no and Trent not, that’s true.

” We have to clarify a bit. I was not aware of it but I saw there was a discussion that we might have forced Trent back. As long as I’m here we never forced anybody back and never will do.

“We have to bring the boys back as soon as possible but never sooner than they are ready.”

Klopp clarifies Trent injury

This should really go without saying from Klopp. There was simply no reason at all for pushing Alexander-Arnold to return sooner.

Obviously, the England international is an incredibly important player for Liverpool. They’re a better side with him in it and to lose him for any period is worrying.

But at the time of his injury Bradley was flying. Trent even said it himself. The regular right-back returned during the FA Cup win over Norwich City which the Northern Irishman started and excelled in.

Had Liverpool’s No.66 needed more time out, then he could have been afforded it. The Reds were well covered.

Obviously, it isn’t a great look that Alexander-Arnold has now had the very same injury come back again. But there’s not always anything you can do about these things.

If the medical team have given him the go ahead, then he’s ready to play. Injuries happen in football and often without indication. There should be no blame attacked to anyone here.

No amount of finger pointing will change the fact that Liverpool will now be without Trent for what sounds like around three weeks. Klopp also confirmed today that the full-back will likely miss next week’s final.

Disappointing, but it can’t be helped. Rest up and get well soon, Trent.
