Chelsea legend Petr Cech has declared who has the best goalkeeper out of Liverpool and Manchester City.
Both clubs have boasted a top Brazilian ‘keeper between their sticks over the past five or six years. On their day jobs and with their national team, this is a debate which has raged over and over again. There’s not much to choose between Alisson Becker and Ederson Moraes.
Now, featuring on Sky Sports Monday Night Football last night, Cech has been asked by Jamie Carragher to name which one he sees as being better.
“Best goalkeeper in the world right now?” Carragher poses.
“I think it’s a competitions between Alisson, Ederson, Courtios,” answers the 41-year-old. “Okay, which one?” pushes the former Liverpool defender.
“I’d go… Okay this season Courtois was injured, I’ll go with Alisson,” Cech decides.
Alisson gets the nod from Cech
Ultimately, this isn’t a debate which will ever truly be answered. There are some who will see the titles Ederson has won with City and declare him as the natural winner.
Others will be adamant that the 30-year-old’s quality with the ball at his feet doesn’t disguise the fact that he has other flaws in his game and will proclaim Alisson as the better ‘keeper.
At the end of the day, it likely comes down to taste. Or bias.
For us, it’s obviously decided by the latter. However, we still think it’s relatively clear that Alisson has more strengths as an all-round goalkeeper than Ederson.
And although he can’t end the debate alone, it’s interesting to hear that Cech seemingly has a similar point of view.

The Czech stopper is one of the best goalkeepers of all time and most likely the greatest the Premier League has ever seen.
His voice always carries weight when it comes to his old profession. As a result, this should bide Alisson a little time in this argument.
Cech’s answer would ultimately indicate that he still think Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois is the best around when fit. And in our opinion, he’s probably a closer contender than Ederson.
But when all is said and done, there’s no one we’d rather have keeping goal than our Ali.
