Rio Ferdinand has shared the reason why he thinks Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is slightly better than Ederson at Manchester City.
Speaking on an episode of ‘This or That’ on his FIVE YouTube channel, the former Manchester United defender was tasked with selecting the better player out of Alisson and Ederson.
“Alisson,” Ferdinand said decisively.
“I just think he saves [more], he probably gets you more points in a season. That’s the only reason.
“I think Ederson, with his feet, there’s no question – he’s the best in the world for me.
“But Alisson, he makes big moments. He’s a big moment player.”
Ferdinand picks Alisson over Ederson
While not many Liverpool players can hold their hands up and say they’ve played well this season, Alisson is one of the few who can.
Without the 30-year-old between the sticks, the Reds wouldn’t be anywhere near ninth in the table.
Despite a number of woeful performances at the back this term, Jurgen Klopp’s side still have a +8 goal difference. This is largely accountable to their keeper, who has only conceded 28 goals, despite only making six clean sheets.
Alisson often saves Liverpool in big moments, and he has been one of the most important signings during the Klopp era, having arrived for £65m.
For Brazil, the Reds no.1 actually starts over Ederson – as demonstrated at the World Cup.
Therefore, although people may praise Ederson’s ability with his feet, it’s arguable that Alisson is the overall better player.
