Liverpool have a lot of exciting young players coming through the ranks at the academy right now. Already this season, we have seen the emergence of Jarell Quansah, and Conor Bradley – both of whom have shown they can compete at senior level for Liverpool.

But they could be just the beginning of an exciting influx of talent. Liverpool’s academy are full of young players doing really well right now. And those young players have been gradually getting recognition from Jurgen Klopp at first team level as well.

One of them has been Lewis Koumas. He has been on Klopp’s radar since pre-season when the young Welsh youth international was called-up into the senior squad for camps to Austria and Asia.

Lewis Koumas knocking on Jurgen Klopp’s door

The son of Jason, who was a former Premier League player, Lewis is highly rated. He’s already made his debut for Liverpool’s first team during pre-season. And he’s been very close to making his debut at competitive level as well.

Koumas has sat on the bench several times for Jurgen Klopp’s side, including against Burnley at the weekend. It’s only a matter of time until he gets his time on the pitch as well.

Especially if he continues to perform at academy level. After sitting on the first team bench on Saturday last weekend, Koumas was in action for the U21s on Sunday. And the 18-year-old didn’t disappoint scoring a brace in a 3-1 victory over Stoke City.

That means he now has seven goals and two assists in seven games in the Premier League 2 this season. He’s got 12 goals and three assists in 15 appearances overall. In that kind of form, he’s definitely knocking on Klopp’s door.
