When it comes to the long list of pages in Liverpool’s illustrious history, the game against Burnley will not go down as an indelible moment. However, it will go down as one which broke the record books for the first time in 75 years.

The game against Burnley was in fact quite an uneventful encounter. Liverpool got the job done. But it wasn’t pretty or exciting. At times, Jurgen Klopp’s side rode their luck. If it wasn’t for Burnley’s toothlessness in front of goal, things could have turned out differently as well. Although the Reds won’t care too much about that – all that matters are the three points. Another step made in the quest to win the Premier League title.

But the game will be memorable, not for what happened on the pitch. Instead, it will go down in the history books for what happened in the stands.

Liverpool broke 75-year-long record vs Burnley

As Liverpool’s official website wrote, Liverpool recorded the highest league attendance at Anfield in the club’s history against Burnley. Anfield welcomed 59,896 supporters, which surpassed the previous record set all the way back in 1949 against Chelsea which saw 58,757 people attend the game.

This was, of course, thanks to the new Anfield Road Stand expansion. Yet another step in the evolution of Anfield under the guidance of FSG. The stadium’s capacity is set to surpass 60k people after this latest expansion, having grown incredibly since FSG took over – when Anfield’s maximum capacity was only at 45k.

It’s yet more proof that Liverpool hasn’t just grown on the pitch in terms of achievements since FSG took over the club, but also off the pitch.
