There’s been a lot of change at Liverpool this season, and there will be even more changes ahead with Jurgen Klopp set to leave the club. Change is natural. It’s part and parcel of life, and of football as well.

This summer change was also necessary at Liverpool. The team had stagnated, and for some players, it was clearly time to move on. Meanwhile, others were ready to step into new roles, and grow and evolve as players.

One of those was definitely Trent Alexander-Arnold. He is only 25-years-old, but he already has so much experience under his belt. And this summer, was definitely the right time for him to shoulder more responsibility. Klopp named him the vice-captain in a role which has shaped him for the rest of the campaign.

Jamie Carragher on Trent Alexander-Arnold

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Jamie Carragher praised Alexander-Arnold for the way his body language has changed this season, since stepping up and shouldering more responsibility.

“I feel like when I’m watching Trent Alexander-Arnold this season, even though his numbers might be the same, it’s just a body language and feeling he has got on the pitch that he’s getting older,” Carragher said.

Carragher is not the only one to have noticed. We’ve noticed it as well about Alexander-Arnold. He is becoming more mature as a player, and that’s to be expected. This season is his first as more of a senior player at the club, and we’ve already seen him step-up at times of need.

From his equaliser against Manchester City, to his late winner against Fulham, there is definitely a new side to Alexander-Arnold. At 25-years-old he is far from the finished product, and he’s still got a few years until he hits his prime.
