One thing that Gary Neville has highlighted that he thinks is brilliant about Jurgen Klopp is the fact that he will often stand on the halfway line to observe his opponents warming-up before the game.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville praised Klopp’s actions as one of the best things that the Liverpool boss does.
“Do you know one of the best things that I think he does and I have just remembered it, is standing in the warm up. He stands there, 6ft 3 and he literally stares at them at the closest point to where the team were just warming up and he’s looking at them right in the eye. I think it’s intimidation. He stands there menacing.”
We certainly have to agree with Neville it’s definitely a clever bit of mind games from the Liverpool boss. But it’s more than that. It’s also a last-minute bit of analysis. By observing his opponents, Klopp is able to spot any little niggles or differences that could give him a small whisker of an advantage. Those are the fine margins that elite sport is won, and that is why Klopp is one of the best managers in world football. And why he will be very difficult to replace for Liverpool.
