Jurgen Klopp is not an easy man to replace. Especially after nine years at the football club. Everything at Liverpool has simply become synonymous with his name.

Which is why Liverpool fans are going to have to be a little bit patient. The next step for Liverpool may not work out as well as the appointment of Klopp. The club will do everything in their power to get things right. But that takes time, and even if they are certain they find the right man, things don’t always work out.

Xabi Alonso is of course the favourite to succeed Klopp, but he isn’t the only candidate, who is being eyed as a possible replacement. There are others in European and English football who are on the radar, including a new name who hasn’t yet been mentioned until today.

Enzo Maresca on Liverpool’s radar

According to former Peterborough chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, one possible candidate for Liverpool could be Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca. Speaking on The Hard Truth podcast, MacAnthony said the following about Liverpool’s new manager search.

“I think you look at the Brighton guy, the Leicester guy might have an outside chance, but he’s getting a bit of criticism from Leicester fans for keeping too much of the ball or anything else.
It could be Nagelsmann but I’m not really fond of him. Alonso would be ideal, as he would be Liverpool’s DNA. I really don’t know,” MacAnthony said.

It’s an interesting comment. Maresca’s name being mentioned is another new manager being linked with the club. But his achievements speak for themselves. After being the assistant manager at several top clubs including working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, 43-year-old Maresca has now done a tremendous job at Leicester.

He’s currently leading the Championship table by 11 points. But he is not the only one MacAnthony believes Liverpool should have on their radar from the Championship.

“An outside chance or an outside shout would be somebody who I think is going to manage anyway at the top, but they won’t take a chance on him now, would be Russell Martin. I think when he takes Southampton up and they finish top half under his style of play, I think bigger clubs will take him.”

Clearly, those two names are definitely ones to follow closely now.
