With more than three months of the season left, not too many at Liverpool will be thinking about transfers just now.
Having not been tempted to dip into the January market, the Reds are happy with their squad for the time being. Nevertheless, that is likely to change in the summer. With a new sporting director and – sensationally – a new manager to come in, there will surely be one or two things happening.
Today, HITC have exclusively reported that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Juventus winger Federico Chiesa as a potential summer target. The Italian is said to be on the list of options should Mohamed Salah leave.
And according to journalist Matteo Moretto for The Daily Briefing, Juventus could be willing to sell Chiesa. With his contract set to end in 2025, the Serie A giants are keen to ensure they don’t lose the 26-year-old on a free transfer.
“There’s nothing new that’s come my way recently about Federico Chiesa and Juventus,” reports Moretto. “Ultimately, he is out of contract in 2025, and Juve have to look for a solution to his future.
“The two sides will have to speak to see which path they want to take – that conversation is still to happen, negotiations haven’t taken place yet – but if he decides against renewing then Juventus will have to find a way forward. If that is the case, La Vecchia Signora will try to sell him this summer so as not to lose him for free in 2025.”
Chiesa crunch talks imminent
At this stage, nothing should be taken for granted in Chiesa’s case. It doesn’t seem at all out of the question that the Italy international signs on for an extension in Turin.
But unlike plenty of his compatriots, there have been claims that Chiesa does actually fancy playing outside of his homeland, and in England specifically.
As a result, maybe he’ll see this as his possibility of doing so.
In that scenario, it would remiss of Liverpool not to be involved in the conversation. Chiesa has been finding his way back to form this season after a difficult period with injuries.
As far as potential replacements for Salah go, he’s certainly been on Liverpool’s list in the past.

Capable off either foot, Chiesa could be a good option for the new Reds manager. Still just 26, the former Fiorentina attacker is yet to hit his peak, too. It wasn’t all that long ago that the forward was being described as ‘world class’ by former Italy international Alessandro Pierini [Forza Italian Football].
Having said that, Chiesa does not feel like a typical Liverpool signing. Two or three years ago, before he joined Juve, then that would have been different. But now, he’s just about the wrong age profile.
With other clubs like Tottenham also said to be keen on him, Chiesa is possibly just not quite of the standard needed anymore.
Still, if they can pick him up for a knock-off price, maybe Liverpool will still feel this is good value. One to keep an eye on.
