Last night was not a game to remember for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side were poor. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal simply dominated the proceedings. It’s easy to blame the result on the individual errors, but the truth is – this was just a poor performance.
Liverpool simply should have done better. The Reds are capable of much better. Even with key players missing, there will be no excuses for Klopp’s side. They simply just need to move on and focus on the next game now.
At the end of the day, the defeat is not the end of the world. It’s not a fatal result in the title race. Liverpool are still top of the Premier League, and they can easily win it at the end of the season. Arteta’s side are now also back in contention. The Arsenal manager must recognise that, but it’s obvious he is not getting too carried away. After the game, Arteta was quick to highlight just how impressive Liverpool have been this season.

Mikel Arteta on Liverpool
Speaking after the game, as per Arsenal’s official website, Arteta shared what he has been really impressed by coming up against Liverpool recently.
“The level that the Liverpool team has, the coaches and the players is amazing,” Arteta said.
“It’s unbelievable what they demand of you in every ball, in every phase of play, in every style of play, they are there. You’re not ready? They are going to punish you. And it’s very demanding physically, but as well the mental energy and focus that you need. I knew that we were going to need them [the supporters], and the players were the same. I think I ran an extra kilometre or two because of these guys out there! Thank you so much.”
It’s high praise from the Arsenal boss. However, unfortunately last night none it was true for Liverpool. Normally, Jurgen Klopp’s side does suffocate the opposition. But not last night. Last night, Liverpool were weak, and didn’t come anywhere close to their best.
Now the ambition for Klopp and his team will be to get back to the level Arteta has described in his above statement. And based on how the season has gone on so far – we have every confidence for Liverpool to do exactly that.
