Liverpool may just have been handed a transfer boost ahead of this summer’s transfer market.
With the January window now closed, Liverpool will have to wait until the end of the season to make any additions to their squad.
As they’re yet to finalise either a new sporting director or manager ahead of 2024/25, it feels uncertain exactly what the Reds’ plans will be over the summer. However, that hasn’t stopped them being linked with moves for a number of players.
One of those being linked ever since last year is PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko. Having kicked on this season, Bakayoko has been in excellent form for PSV, leading to suggestions that he’s due a move.
And in quotes from Dutch outlet Voetbalkrant, the Eindhoven club’s sporting director Ernie Stewart has admitted that the young forward could depart.
“I don’t think Bakayoko will still play at PSV next season,” says Stewart. “It’s unbelievable what Johan does for someone his age. He’s played thirty great games in the past few months. At PSV and at the Red Devils [Belgium national team].”
Bakayoko set for PSV exit
This shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise to anyone following Bakayoko’s progress.
The 20-year-old very nearly left PSV last summer, only to turn down a move to Brentford at the very last minute. That has since proven to be a good decision, with the Reds and Whites sitting unbeaten at the top of the Eredivisie.
Bakayoko has been key to that, scoring four times and laying on a further eight assists. Liverpool have seemingly been impressed.
That kind of form inevitably turns the heads of bigger sides across Europe. And with the Reds potentially looking for a Mohamed Salah successor this summer, the Belgian is a natural option.
As a left-footer, Bakayoko is well worth Liverpool looking into in that respect. There aren’t many elite left-footed attackers out there right now.

With the Reds trying to find the heir to Salah’s throne, you’d think they’d be after someone who plays off the same foot as the Egyptian.
Obviously at just 20, Bakayoko is not an elite player just yet. But he’s really showing all the signs that he could be very soon.
By the sounds of things the Belgium international will be on the market this summer. As well as Stewart’s quotes, Voetbalkrant report that Liverpool are one of the sides to show ‘concrete interest’ in him.
If they don’t step in at the end of the season, it may be a while before they get the chance to do so again,
