Diogo Jota now posts nine words on social media after playing in Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday

The mood has been solemn around Liverpool ever since Sunday’s disappointing defeat against Arsenal.

The Reds had headed to North London with genuine hope of claiming a big win in the Premier League title race. But they never really got going and were well beaten by a hungrier Arsenal team.

Since the game, the reaction has obviously been largely from the Gunners camp. Licking their wounds, we haven’t seen too much from Liverpool players by way of post-mortem.

Virgil van Dijk did make a promise to bounce back yesterday, but otherwise, it’s been pretty quiet, social media wise. That changed on Monday night, where more than 24 hours on from the match finishing, Diogo Jota posted on X.

“Nothing went our way but we will keep fighting,” wrote the 27-year-old. Is right Diogo, we go again.

Alexis Mac Allister was another who broke his silence, taking to Instagram to share his own conclusions. “Still a long way to go and we’re committed to push forward together,” wrote the Argentine. “Thank you for your support, on to the next one!”

Liverpool players ready for battle

Of course, it’s normal that we don’t see much from Liverpool players after losing a game. They – or whoever manages their social media – obviously recognise that it perhaps isn’t time to be writing any essays.

But we’d actually prefer it if we saw some more immediate reaction to a loss. It was a tough one to take on Sunday, to hear they boys’ thoughts would have been nice.

Nevertheless, what is clear is that they’re not ready to give up on this title just yet. Not by a long shot.

Following Manchester City’s win over Brentford last night, there has been a feeling amongst the fanbase that the inevitable is coming once again. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

With City still to come to Anfield, this title race is still – in theory – in Liverpool’s hands. They got perhaps their toughest remaining game out of the way against Arsenal and can now look ahead with confidence.

Mohamed Salah looks set to return soon having posted an encouraging update on his own social media last night. There are plenty of reasons to be positive.

It would have been nice if Liverpool had had a midweek fixture just to shake off the cobwebs of Sunday’s disappointment.

But instead, you get the feeling that Burnley might just bear the brunt of the Reds’ frustration at Anfield this weekend. Heads up lads, all to play for.
