As Liverpool fans continue to digest the news that Jurgen Klopp will no longer be their manager next season, talk has turned to which players could follow him.
Mohamed Salah was unfortunately seen as a player who may leave this summer long before Klopp’s announcement last week. But in the days since, the likes of Virgil van Dijk have also been suggested to be considering their future.
Furthermore, Jamie Carragher today expressed his concern that Trent Alexander-Arnold may also look for a new challenge.
But speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, West Ham United’s Michail Antonio has predicted that no player will leave Liverpool purely on the back of Klopp’s own exit.
“I don’t think everyone is going to exit,” said the 33-year-old.
“I think they will give the new manager a chance. And then if they don’t like his philosophies then they will try and leave but I don’t think everyone is going to head straight for the door.”
Antonio backs Liverpool players to stay
It’s good to hear a current footballer’s perspective on this. Although Antonio doesn’t have experience of playing for a top, top club or under a manager like Klopp, it’s still worth hearing.
And, logically, why shouldn’t he be right? It would seem wise for players like Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold to wait and see what comes next.
They’ll all surely be disappointed that Klopp is leaving, but why jump the gun and push to leave.
What comes next is unlikely to be better than the period under the German, but it’ll probably still be worth sticking around for.

While Antonio’s comments are hopefully likely to cover Liverpool’s captain and vice-captain though, we’re still not sure about Salah.
Owing to his current injury, Mo has been out of the spotlight recently. We haven’t heard his opinions on what Klopp leaving means for him.
But it seems that there was a real chance of the Egyptian leaving even before we knew what was going on with the manager. However, recent reports have suggested that Salah is still happy on Merseyside.
What a new man being in charge does for all of that, we’ll just have to see. It’s hard to envisage how it helps where Salah is concerned, though. If that is the case, then Liverpool need calm heads from both Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold even more than ever.
