Liverpool fans have a new hero after Conor Bradley’s latest terrific performance. The 20-year-old was the best player on the pitch during yesterday’s win over Chelsea.
To anyone who’s been following Bradley’s career path over the past couple of years, that he’s doing so well won’t have come as a surprise.
The Northern Irishman was superb while on-loan at Bolton Wanderers last season. Having picked up their player of the season award, Bradley became something of a cult hero for the League One side.
And speaking on BBC Sport after last night’s game, Jurgen Klopp admitted that he’d actually recently been asked by some Bolton fans whether he could send the youngster back again.
“A few weeks ago when we had a few days off and I was on holiday, some people from Bolton were there and they asked me if they can have Conor Bradley back and I said: ‘Too late!'” Jurgen laughed.
Bolton no chance for Bradley
Bradley’s time with the Trotters last year was the perfect example of exactly what a loan move should be.
Having gained confidence and experience with Bolton, the right-back was then ready to take the next step this season. He’s duly done that.
Following his star turn for the first-team of late, there’s no little chance of Bradley leaving the club on-loan again. If he does, it will likely be for a Premier League team where he’s guaranteed minutes.
Still, you can’t blame the Bolton fans for asking. And after Klopp’s comments last night, X user Mackchantry04 revealed himself as the fan who put the question to the Liverpool boss.
Sharing a photo with Klopp – who sports a YNWA baseball cap – he writes “Was worth a shot.” It certainly was.
Unfortunately for the Bolton support, their days of seeing Bradley at the Toughsheet Community Stadium are over.
However, all is not lost. As of last week, they now have a new on-loan Liverpool right-back to get excited about. Let’s hope that Calvin Ramsay’s spell in Lancashire is equally as productive.
There’s no question that Bradley will look back on his time last year with great fondness. But with all due respect, he’s now got bigger fish to fry.
