As Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool reign now ticks into its last months, speculation is rife over what he’ll do next.
Before he does anything, it’s clear that the Reds manager will take a little bit of time off. Having ruled out taking another job in England, Klopp will then seemingly head elsewhere for his next venture.
The most likely scenario appears to be that Jurgen will then take over the national team job with Germany. And speaking to the Einfach mal Luppen podcast, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has given that his backing.
“He deserves to make this decision [on his next move] alone,” said the 34-year-old. “He is a very intelligent man who recognises the moments. If he believes that now is the time [to retire], then simply a tip of the hat to him.
“But as German football fans, we can only hope that, at some point, we can convince him to play any role in Germany. This is what we have been looking forward to for many, many years.”
Kroos backs Klopp for Germany
As well as speaking on Jurgen’s next move, Kroos also had some very complimentary words about his countryman’s time at Liverpool.
Despite having beaten the Reds in two finals with Madrid, the World Cup winner clearly has a lot of respect for the job Klopp has done at Anfield.
“What can you say about Kloppo?” Kroos mused. “Although he has been working abroad for years, surveys would say that he is, by far, the most popular coach in Germany and I think the same can now be said in England. That means something. The recognition he got there is not even enough to describe what he did there.
“For all Liverpool and football fans, Jurgen Klopp is synonymous with a certain loyalty, especially with his dedication, love for the club and success. Now he is a legend in Germany, a legend in Liverpool and in England.”
At times, we have perhaps been guilty of forgetting just what an ambassador Klopp has been for our football club. He truly is recognised the world over as one of the greats.

To have him leading Liverpool over the past eight years and more has truly been a privilege.
Obviously, as a German, Kroos can recognise that from the outside. But it’s also worth pointing out that the legendary midfielder has been a perpetual rival of Klopp’s. First, he was part of the Bayern Munich team who Jurgen dethroned whilst at Borussia Dortmund.
And then, in the years that followed, Kroos has and his Madrid team have piled the misery on Liverpool. Through all of that though, the respect remains. That’s no mean feat.
We’d have to admit that right now, we’d also like to see Kroos’ wish of Klopp in charge of Germany come true. As Jamie Carragher said today, we certainly can’t really see him at a Barcelona, or Kroos’ team, Real Madrid. Let’s see what Jurgen eventually decides. For now though, he’s still ours. Cherish that.
