While Liverpool are unlikely to be active in the transfer window this month, the club are expected to be busy this summer. Even if Jurgen Klopp had decided to stay – this summer was always going to be a very active one.
But now with his departure, the summer activity could increase by twofold. Whoever the new manager is will have his own targets. Liverpool’s recruitment team will also have theirs. And then it’s just about finding the players who suit both visions.
One area where the club will undoubtedly look to strengthen again is in midfield. Even though four midfielders arrived last summer – there is still one missing piece of the jigsaw. Liverpool still very much need a long-term number six. Wataru Endo has done a brilliant job since arriving at the club – but he is just a temporary stop-gap – until Liverpool can find the perfect candidate. Something they may already be working on based on the latest reports.

Ederson linked with a move to Liverpool
According to Goal in Brazil Liverpool have made an approach to sign £23m rated (Transfermarkt) Brazilian midfielder Ederson. The 24-year-old plays his club football for Atalanta in Italy, and he is also eyed by the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United.
A real energetic football, Ederson has really rare qualities. Something that was highlighted by his former manager Tiago Nunes speaking to Sky Sports.
“He is a box-to-box player with the energy to keep going back and forth all the time,” Nunes explained.
“My first impressions were of a player with a lot of strength, a lot of physical ability, a player who was a powerful striker on the ball, with good technique. Basically, someone with characteristics that are difficult to find, especially in Brazilian football.”
Ederson is a really energetic midfielder. He wins 62.73% of his 7.57 defensive duels per in the Serie A this season. And ranks in the top 20 midfielders for successful defensive actions (8.47 per 90) and in the top 10 for progressive passes (8.09 per 90). On top of that, he has already made seven goal contributions this season in all competitions for Atalanta.
