Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season has sent shockwaves around the world.

Nobody saw this coming at all. It wasn’t really supposed to end this way. But after more than eight years, Jurgen will depart once the last whistle goes on the 2023/24 campaign.

So far, the reaction has been exactly what you’d expect. Graeme Souness declared his ‘amazement,’ while the likes of former player Ryan Babel have already named their ideal successor to Klopp.

Now though, we’re seeing the first reaction from one of those to play for the German at Liverpool. Taking to X not long after the news was announced, Lucas Leiva added his two pence to proceedings.

“You will be missed,” wrote the Brazilian, alongside three love heart emojis. We are not ready for this, Jurgen!

Lucas reacts to Klopp news

As the days and weeks go on, we’re sure we’ll see reaction from just about everyone to have come into contact with Klopp at Liverpool.

The boss is just that big of a character. He has touched so many lives in such a positive way since his arrival in 2015. Everyone will want to pay tribute.

In many ways, we can imagine that this is not what Jurgen will want. Not yet, anyway.

As he said in his announcement video, there’s still so much left to play for this season. The manager will want full focus on that from his players.

But with all due respect to Jurgen, it doesn’t work that way. This news is simply too big. There will be reams and reams written about him over the coming months whether he likes it or not.

If he didn’t want that, then he should have held off before announcing that he’s leaving.

Klopp has done amazing, unthinkably good things at Anfield, though. He has earned the right to go out on his terms in whatever way he pleases.

What Lucas’ message does do is remind us that although players and managers leave their positions at Liverpool, they continue to be part of the family at the club. Jurgen will forever be a Red, however these last months go.

Thanks for everything, boss, we still can’t believe it
