Jurgen Klopp has shocked the world of football by announcing his decision to leave Liverpool.

Klopp will depart the Reds this summer, ending almost nine glorious years in charge of the club. Nobody saw this coming.

As the reaction continues to pour in, FSG now have perhaps the biggest decision of their own tenure to make: just how do you replace a legend?

The owners have reportedly already begun the arduous process of picking Klopp’s successor at Anfield.

According to former player Ryan Babel though, the decision is not a difficult one. Taking to X this morning, Babel shared his pick for Liverpool’s next manager.

“Wait you guys are right… it’s actually easy….. Simply : Xabi Alonso,” wrote the Dutchman. You might be on to something there, Ryan.

Babel backs Alonso for Liverpool job

Babel is actually a former teammate of Alonso’s at Liverpool. The pair played together for two years at Anfield.

And on this, terrible Thursday morning, the former Netherlands international won’t be the only one calling for Alonso to get the job.

In fact, from where we’re sitting, the Spaniard is simply the only choice.

Some might come back with people like Roberto De Zerbi and other such candidates. But for us, it’s so simple. It has to be Alonso.

With his Bayer Leverkusen side still unbeaten all season long, Xabi is proving himself to be a quite wonderful young manager.

Real Madrid are also inevitably sniffing around him. But with Carlo Ancelotti recently signing a new deal at the Bernabeu, the door should be open for Liverpool.

Obviously, it’s neigh on impossible to replace Klopp effectively. The German leaving is going to be hugely emotional for many reasons.

But replacing him with a fan favourite like Alonso would be a smart move. The only right choice. Listen to Ryan!
