Brendan Rodgers really surprised by what Jurgen Klopp did for Liverpool on Sunday

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was not best pleased with one of Jurgen Klopp’s decisions on Sunday.

Klopp succeeded Rodgers as Liverpool boss back in 2015. Ever since then, the two men have always seemingly spoken well of each other.

But now, according to the Daily Record, Jurgen has given Brendan reason to be annoyed. They claim that the Reds former boss – now at Celtic – wasn’t too delighted to see Owen Beck given a run out for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Rodgers had reportedly been pushing to sign Beck for Celtic in January. With the 21-year-old said to be willing to talk to the Scottish giants about either a permanent or a loan move, their pursuit of Beck is claimed to have been ‘active’.

That was until Sunday, anyway. With the left-back featuring for Liverpool, he will now be ineligible to sign and play for a third side in the season. Having already played for Dundee, Beck cannot turn out for a third. Hence, a move to Celtic is off.

This was reportedly put to Rodgers on Sunday as he sat down to speak to the press. The 50-year-old is said to have been taken by surprise at the news, as he shrugged it off with an ‘unconvincing smile.’ That’s Jurgen off the Christmas card list.

Rodgers disappointed by Beck appearance

In some ways, you can understand Rodgers’ frustration over Beck appearing for Liverpool on Sunday.

It sounds like the Hoops have been really enamoured by the youngster. Now that the Reds have used him for a somewhat meaningless cameo, he’s no longer a possibility until the summer.

Had Beck been set to play a big part for Liverpool between now and then, then that frustration would be less.

But with Andy Robertson now fit and set to be in tonight’s matchday squad, the Welshman may have already played his last game of the season.

As a result, Liverpool have put Celtic’s transfer plans in jeopardy over a seven-minute run-out.

The flipside of this is of course that Celtic’s transfer plans are of no concern to Liverpool. Beck is their player, and if Klopp wants to give him a well-earned Premier League debut then nothing should stop him from doing so.

The former academy full-back has seemingly had a good half-season with Dundee and having been brought back deserved a go. It may have been brief, but it will have meant a lot to Beck nonetheless.

With Celtic now off the table, Beck could either stay at Liverpool or head back to Dundee. The way this has played out, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him back at the club he spent the first half of the season. Equally though, he’s a handy option for Klopp until Kostas Tsimikas returns. Either way, Rodgers will just have to deal with it.
