Saturday sees Brendan Rodgers return to Anfield for the first time since his departure in October 2015. Rodgers arrives as coach of a Leicester City side performing well above expectations this season, they currently sit 3rd in the Premier League. The Northern Irishman was sacked as Liverpool manager in October 2015 and was replaced with Jürgen Klopp just 4 days later. The Rodgers return is sure to be well received by the Anfield faithful as the supporters still remember him fondly after he gave Kopites one of our most exciting seasons in modern history in 2013/14.
The ex-Liverpool boss has held his press conference ahead of Saturday’s game and he was quick to praise his successor’s work on Merseyside. Rodgers’ comments were reported by the Leicester Mercury, he told the media: “Jurgen has done a brilliant job, brought a real harmony to the team and supporters, togetherness”. Whilst Liverpool fans loved watching their 13/14 side, there was definitely a different feel about the team in comparison to our current squad. We were have-a-go heroes graced by the genius of Luis Suarez in 13/14, we are expected to win 19/20.
One of the reasons that Rodgers was unable to clinch the title for Liverpool was his defence. He has identified 2 Jürgen Klopp signings that have helped transform the Reds, saying: “Virgil, Alisson, top level players who really improve the squad.”
Liverpool will need their two superstar stoppers this weekend against a dangerous Leicester City side. The Reds may not have Alisson back in goal in time for Saturday but hopefully Adrian will maintain his solid form for the Rodgers return.
