After no games for almost two weeks, the games are now coming in thick and fast for Liverpool. Tomorrow the Reds are back in action already, hoping to secure a place in the final of the League Cup at Wembley.

As customary for the occasion, once again, it was Pep Lijnders on press-conference duties ahead of the game. And the Liverpool assistant manager shared plenty of good news ahead of the game.

Perhaps the biggest of them all was the return of a key player into the squad, who could even face Fulham tomorrow night after several months injured on the sidelines.

Lijnders issues update on Andy Robertson

Speaking ahead of his press conference as per Liverpool’s official website, Lijnders revealed that Robertson is back training with the club’s first team, and that he will be in the squad against Fulham tomorrow night.

“Let’s start with Robbo because he trained yesterday with the team. It’s now 13 weeks. He had his meeting with the surgeon to make sure that everything is right to go into full contact – it’s clear. So he did a lot of work and really good rehab throughout the last period, so he’s fit in terms of sports science. Now he has to get fit with proper team training.

“So that’s a big, big advantage to have him back. We were waiting for a long time – he’s one of our captains. I just met him in the canteen and he said, ‘Pep, I have my tracksuit with me!’ So he’s pushing himself into the squad, so that’s good. He will travel [to Fulham].”

Having Robertson back is going to be a huge boost for Liverpool. Joe Gomez has deputised for him really well. But Robertson is just different class, he’s even been described as ‘world-class’ in the past, and someone with his experience will be vital heading into a crucial part of the season.

Of course, Liverpool will want to be careful, and won’t want to rush him back too early. He’s missed several months now, so it will take a bit of time for him to get back into match sharpness.
