Victor Osimhen has had a whirlwind career so far. And he’s still only 25-years-old. Which means there are still many years ahead of him yet. Already, though, the Nigerian is regarded as one of the best players in African football right now.
Last season, he was undoubtedly one of the best forwards in European football as well. He scored 31 goals in total en route to delivering a historic scudetto for Napoli. This season he has been in equally good form with 11 goal contributions so far in all competitions.
It is no secret that Osimhen is someone who has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time as well. He is someone who would suit Liverpool’s style of play well, and the type of forward who would absolutely flourish under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance. Recently, he’s also revealed that during the early stages of his career he learnt a lot from a former Liverpool cult hero.

Victor Osimhen on Divock Origi
In an interview with The Guardian, Osimhen has been reflecting back on his career. From the very early days to his very first move in Europe, joining Wolfsburg. Osimhen’s stint at the Bundesliga club was not very successful. In fact, he was sold by now current Liverpool director, Jorg Schmadtke, after he couldn’t fight himself into the starting XI.
However, speaking to The Guardian, Osimhen revealed, that he did learn a lot of things from his time at Wolfsburg. And learnt something from Divock Origi as well – Liverpool’s former attacking hero.
“Whatever bad things happened there, I take full responsibility for it. It was my decision to go to Wolfsburg, to try to improve, because I knew that I was still a work in progress after the World Cup in Chile,” Osimhen said.
“I had Mario Gómez there, Divock Origi too. I had to learn from these people … I was rejected by two clubs in Belgium before I had the opportunity to sign for Charleroi on loan.”
It’s interesting that Osimhen mentioned Origi. The Belgian was never really a first choice at Anfield, but there is no denying that he is a world-class finisher – so it’s no surprise someone like Osimhen would have learnt a lot from him.
