Napoli director shares what’s really happening with Osimhen, after claims he’s agreed a move to Liverpool

Reported Liverpool target Victor Osimhen is set to review a contract offer from Napoli.

Osimhen’s future has been the subject of much scrutiny recently. With less than two years now left on his current deal, there have been rumours that he could soon leave Naples.

To that end, Liverpool have been one of the clubs heavily linked with a move. Only yesterday, there were claims in the Italian press that the Nigerian has already agreed a contract with the Reds.

In light of that, journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared some quotes from Napoli director Mauro Meluso on Twitter. Meluso claims that although Osimhen is taking his time to decide on his future, there’s nothing out of the ordinary.

“The president will meet with Victor’s agent to discuss that in the next weeks,” says the director.

“It’s also normal for Osimhen to take some time in order to think about the contract proposal we made.”

It sounds like there’s plenty of twists still left in this one. Will Liverpool be involved? Only time will tell.

Osimhen set for Napoli talks

There won’t be too much panic at Napoli about Osimhen’s situation just yet. Time is ticking down on his contract, but they still have enough left before they need to worry.

If nothing is agreed by the spring time, that’s when they may need to start resigning themselves to losing the 24-year-old.

If that does happen, the Italians will be looking to recoup as much of the £70m they spent on Osimhen as they can.

With one year left on his deal by the summer, that might be slightly tricky to do.

Nevertheless, even if his price is lowered considerably, we can’t see Liverpool being involved. The Reds simply don’t need a player like the Nigeria international right now.

So, assuming Liverpool don’t get him, it’s possibly in our interests that Osimhen can agree something with Napoli. Should he move on, it’s likely to be to a Premier League rival.

As he’s a really top striker, that could be bad news for the Reds. Either way, Osimhen’s situation is one to keep an eye on over the next months.
