‘He is unbelievable’… Micah Richards claims 27-year-old Liverpool player is not getting the credit he deserves

It was another win for Liverpool, and another strong performance to go with it as well last night. The Reds are simply unstoppable at the moment, and much of that has been thanks in part to the return of one man.

Diogo Jota has been in simply sensational form since he returned from injury last month. And against Bournemouth he was once again his prolific best, scoring twice and registering an assist in a clinical masterclass.

The Liverpool forward, who is still only 27-years-old, is really going under the radar at the moment. He just keeps putting the ball in the back of the net and that is a really underrated skill. Especially considering how Liverpool struggled to be clinical at some parts of this season before he came along.

What Micah Richards said about Diogo Jota

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Micah Richards waxed lyrical about Jota, and said the Liverpool man doesn’t quite get the recognition he deserves.

“Can we talk about Jota? We talk about Salah so many times but every time Jota comes on he makes a difference, when he starts he makes a difference. And Salah, yes, rightly so we give him all the accolades but Jota is unbelievable. He can play left, right or through the centre. He never moans, he works hard. He has everything for this time,” Richards said.

“I think what are they going to do without Salah. Diaz maybe hasn’t been the same level as last season. And then second half they just turn the screw. It’s alright having depth, but doing it in the vital moments. He is doing that and assisting when the pressure is on. His assist for Nunez’s goal was magnificent. I just think he needs to start getting the credit he deserves.”

Richards is right. Jota in the mainstream media is still not being recognised as the world-class finisher that he is. But it’s impossible to even think about where Liverpool would be without him this month. He has minimised the impact of Salah’s absence to be completely miniscule.
