Mohamed Salah has set the benchmark not just for Liverpool, but for the Premier League over the last half a decade. In the last few years, Erling Haaland has emerged as a serious contender, and it’s no surprise to see the two of them leading the top-scoring charts.
But while it is those two who lead the scoring charts on paper, if we are looking at underlying statistics, it seems like there is a duo who are doing even better than Haaland and Salah this season.
And they just happen to both play for Liverpool.

Liverpool duo more prolific than Salah
When you distil the numbers to minutes per non-penalty goal contribution in all competitions this season, there are two players who come out above Salah and Haaland from Liverpool.
One of those is Diogo Jota, who is averaging a goal or assist every 89.9 minutes. This one may not be too much of a surprise considering how pivotal his finishing has been recently. He is simply a fox in the box, and has single-handedly decided games on his own.
However, the next one, in Darwin Nunez may surprise a few. The Uruguayan has a reputation for not being very prolific.
Yet when it comes to non-penalty goal contributions he is impressively averaging one every 92 minutes. Meanwhile, Salah is averaging every 97 minutes and Haaland at every 98.
Nunez and Jota will be the key for Jurgen Klopp to replace Salah in his absence now. And based on those stats, the Liverpool boss will have nothing to worry about. He’s got more than enough ammunition to cope with the challenge ahead.
