Things went really well for Liverpool against Bournemouth last night. Even without having someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah in the team, the Reds breezed past a tough opponent. To do it away from home was even special.
What Jurgen Klopp will be really impressed by is the way some of his players shouldered the responsibility and stepped-up when needed. From Diogo Jota to Darwin Nunez, there were several really key individual performances.
But it wasn’t just the strikers who deserve to get the attention. There was one man at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield, who put in one of his best performances yet. And showed just why he can be a key asset to this Liverpool team going forward.

Danny Murphy on Alexis Mac Allister
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day 2, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy was really impressed by the performance of Alexis Mac Allister. According to Murphy Mac Allister is similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold. And Murphy also admitted he doesn’t even think that Mac Allister has played in his best position yet for Liverpool.
“From a creative point of view and someone who is bold and brave and wants to pass through the lines and make things happen. Mac Allister is a really intelligent footballer and the great news for Liverpool fans, I believe, is that they haven’t seen him in his best position yet,” Murphy said.
“Where he scored double figures for Brighton and plays for Argentina, further up the field. But what he gives you is bravery on the ball. That is a Alexander-Arnold pass in effect. Mac Allister is one of the few players in the squad who can hit those passes and split defences. That’s why in the big games he will play, when he’s fit.”
Murphy makes an interesting point. Although it’s important to note that most of Mac Allister’s goals last season for Brighton didn’t come from open play. He scored most them through penalties and set-pieces.
And for Liverpool, the Argentine has done a superb job in the number six role. He’s even been praised by Jurgen Klopp for his performances recently in that position.
