Keyrol Figueroa has been regarded as one of the best up-and-coming talents in Liverpool’s academy for some time now. The son of Maynor, who played in the Premier League and represented the Honduras national team at the World Cup, there are high hopes Keyrol can follow in his dad’s footsteps.

At Liverpool, he’s been in and around the youth set-up from a young age. He made his debut against Everton in the mini-derby at U18 level at just 15-years-old.

Meanwhile, last season, Figueroa finished the campaign with seven goal contributions in his last eight games. And he also netted seven times in seven games for the U17 USMNT team at the CONCACAF Championships.

This season, Figueroa has been out injured. He came back towards the end of last year and immediately had to travel to the U17 World Cup to represent his country. Figueroa scored once at the tournament before coming back to Liverpool.

Keyrol Figueroa role change

Recently, Figueroa has been playing a lot of his minutes out wide for Liverpool at academy level. However, with Jayden Danns promoted to the U21s, he’s had the opportunity to play as a forward again against Stoke City. A position which Liverpool U18 coach, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, believes is his strongest.

“I thought Figgy was really good. It was the first time in a while that he has played as a No.9 down the middle and, if we are being honest, that is probably his strongest area on the pitch,” Bridge-Wilkinson told Liverpool’s official website.

“That being said, he has done really well for us when he has played down the sides. We saw Figgy make some good runs, we saw him pressing, saw his recovery runs, as well as the energy and the enthusiasm that he can bring to his game.”

Playing through the middle, Figueroa scored his first league goal of the season in his fourth game and led Liverpool to victory. Next-up he will be in action in the FA Youth Cup. The goal now is to score as many as possible in Jayden Danns’ absence.

And the 17-year-old is absolutely capable of doing that.
