It’s not always that Liverpool make errors in the transfer market. On the whole, the club’s business is usually very sound. However, just every now and again as every fallible being – Liverpool does make errors, too.

This summer on paper when the club decided to loan out Calvin Ramsay to Preston North End – it seemed like the perfect move. Preston is a club where Sepp van den Berg had previously thrived on loan from Liverpool.

There was good cause for optimism that the talented Ramsay would be able to follow suit. Alas, things did not turn out that way.

Calvin Ramsay ‘mistake’ from Liverpool

The Liverpool loanee ended-up having a far from ideal time at Preston. He made just two league appearances for the club – and spent time out injured and struggling with a Covid-19 infection as well.

It it no surprise that Calvin Ramsay has now been recalled from his loan spell as per The Athletic. However, the report claims that Ramsay is now expected to leave on loan again before the window shuts close.

Ramsay has been extremely unfortunate in terms of injuries ever since arriving at the club for £6.5m back in the summer of 2022, as per Sky Sports. In his first season he was blighted by injuries and only made two senior appearances for the club – albeit both were impressive cameos from the youngster.

On top of that, Ramsay also scored twice in five games at U21 level for Liverpool.

He’s clearly got plenty of talent and showed it as a teenager in Scotland making 10 goal contributions in 39 games from right-back. But now at 20-years-old it’s imperative that Liverpool get his next step right.

For the sake of his development, Ramsay needs to play regular first team football at a relatively high level. Liverpool have just a few weeks to find where that might be.
