Wigan Athletic are looking to complete a second loan deal of the season with Liverpool.
The Latics secured academy midfielder James Balagizi on a year-long agreement over the summer. However, with Balagizi making just seven appearances, he was sent back to Anfield early last week.
That reportedly hasn’t stopped Wigan returning to Liverpool with interest, though.
Taking to X this morning, journalist Paul Joyce reports that the League One side are showing a keenness to sign left-back Luke Chambers.
“Wigan Athletic interested in signing Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers on loan,” writes Joyce.
Wigan interested in Chambers loan
Although this would potentially be a good move for Chambers, it may also come with a tinge of disappointment.
Having seen Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas go down with injuries, the 19-year-old was seemingly ready for a tilt at the Liverpool first-team.
With Jurgen Klopp talking him up in the press, Chambers was presented with a couple of opportunities to impress.
Unfortunately though, the youngster didn’t take those chances. Having done okay on a first start against Toulouse, Chambers then looked a little out of his depth when facing Union Saint-Gilloise.
Liverpool subsequently recalled Owen Beck from his own loan spell at Dundee, with a clear signal that Chambers was being bumped down the pecking order.

There’s no shame in that for the young man, though. Still 19, he looks like he just needs a good run of games to get up to speed. Hopefully Wigan should offer him that.
Depending on how things then go, Chambers can come back to Liverpool fresh and ready to show what he’s learned in pre-season.
Nothing is official at the time of writing, but expect this one to move quickly now.
