Luke Chambers had a full debut to remember for Liverpool this evening.

With Andy Robertson out injured, there had been some intrigue as to who would play at left-back for the Reds. In the end, it was Chambers who got the nod from Jurgen Klopp.

And according to TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole, the 19-year-old was pretty faultless throughout the 5-1 win over Toulouse.

“He should be very proud of his performance,” raved the former Liverpool player. “He was good, he’s done everything he needed to do.

“If you win on your debut 5-1, fantastic. He looked at home, he didn’t look like a young lad.

“There was a little shaky moment for the goal, he looked a bit anxious to get out, but aside from that he’s done very, very well.”

Chambers makes solid first impression

When it came down to it, Klopp seemed to have a straight choice between Chambers and Calum Scanlon for the left-back slot tonight.

As it happened, the manager got a look at both youngsters across the 90 minutes.

Having done a solid job for 67 minutes, Chambers was replaced by Scanlon for the final 25 minutes or so.

That was a clear indication that while the former is slightly ahead of his younger teammate for now, Klopp is considering them both for game time.

To be honest, in this small sample size, we liked the look of Scanlon. You can see why the former Birmingham City youngster has played as a winger, he really loves to bomb forward.

But at the same time, Chambers looks equally capable. As Cole points out, the teenager really didn’t look out of place against much more senior players.

Both Chambers and Scanlon will now make way for Kostas Tsimikas, wo will return to the line-up for this weekend’s Premier League fixture.

But after two good displays, either Chambers or Scanlon will probably feature against Bournemouth next mid-week. Well done, lads.
