£35m player who Liverpool have already made contact to sign could be the perfect transfer this month

Liverpool are not expected to be very active in the January transfer window this month. However, just like with Cody Gakpo last year, and Luis Diaz the year before, the Reds will be keeping their eyes on the market.

If the right opportunity presents itself, Liverpool will pounce as they have done so before. Especially, Jurgen Klopp’s options continue to dwindle in certain areas.

One position that Liverpool could look to address is the left-back department. Andy Robertson is still out with an injury, and Kostas Tsimikas is also ruled out for the considerable future. This has seen Liverpool recall Owen Beck on-loan from Dundee.

However, Beck could be a temporary solution preparing for Arsenal at the weekend, with the Reds potentially looking at a more long-term option in this window or the next.

Antonee Robinson – the perfect option for Liverpool?

The Daily Mirror has reported earlier this month that Liverpool have already made contact with Antonee Robinson over a potential deal. According to the Evening Standard, the Fulham full-back is valued at around £35m.

The American international has been in great form this season and his valuation given his long-term contract is probably a fair fee.

In terms of Liverpool, the Reds do need a successor to Robertson’s throne, who is now nearing 30-years-old and who cannot be expected to be around forever. This is why Robinson could be an astute move for Liverpool.

At 26-years-old he is still relatively young, and he’s got the speed and explosiveness Klopp demands from his full-backs. On top of that he is also capable of covering a lot of ground and contribute going forward as well.

One of the most impressive data about him is that when it comes to making interceptions in the Premier League, nobody is better than Robinson this season.

The Fulham defender has made 52 interceptions this season, which ranks him by far and away in first place as per FBref. Below him, second placed James Tarkowski, of Everton, has 35.

Liverpool need a full-back who can break-up opposition counter attacks and upset the rhythm of play in the Reds favour. For that reason alone, Robinson could be the perfect transfer for Klopp’s side this month.
